Worthwhile weekend

My wife and I took a short weekend trip to Williamsburg, VA to watch the 2005 LPGA Michelob Ultra Open. Actually, we went to watch Se Ri Pak play in this event. I've been a huge Se Ri Pak fan since she broke out on the scene in 1998, winning two major championships her rookie year at the ripe old age of 20. I've followed her career off and on since, and have been closely following it for the last 2 years. Se Ri is arguably one of the best female golfers in the world, possibly second only to Annika Sorenstam, although she has struggled for the last several months. Still, I love to go watch her play, so that's what we did.

We followed Se Ri all day Saturday, and spent the day chatting with her parents and sisters, who were travelling with her to lend their support. She didn't have a stellar performance, and didn't make the cut for the event, despite being the defending champion. Still, we had a great time watching her play, and we were fortunate enough to be invited to have lunch with the family following the completion of her round. It was a great time, and goes to show how much class this lady has. Despite being in a slump, despite having a poor round, she doesn't take it out on the fans that are there to support her. In fact, she does the opposite and goes above and beyond to take time out and show her appreciation for the fans. That's one of the big reasons that I like this lady so much.

We're also going to watch her in the McDonald's LPGA Championship being held in Maryland in early June. Hopefully she'll get her game back by then, and I can cheer her on as she makes a great showing. If not, I'll still have a good time supporting such a great athlete, and great person. Thanks Se Ri, for being who you are!!
