Great Quotes

I am going to begin a running hommage to the late MAJ Charles Driscoll. Charlie was a colleague of mine at my current company, who was activated and went and spent a tour in Iraq. He was a US Military Academy graduate, but didn't act at all like a ring knocker. He was a ranger. He was a paratrooper. He was a soldier, and a damn fine man to boot. He completed his tour in Iraq, came home, and a month later passed away during a morning PT session of a congenital heart problem. It was a loss for all that knew him.

His wife shared some of his belongings with those of us who knew him well, and I spent some time going through his "little green book" from his Iraq deployment. Every Army puke knows what I'm talking about...that green fabric covered book that is used by every officer in the Army as a "to do" list. Well, Charlie had a collection of quotes, and some of them made me laugh so hard I almost cried. Your mileage may vary, but I will share a few here and there over the coming months. Here are the first in the collection:

"I finally figured out that when a Turkish officer tells you, "It's no problem," he means for him" MAJ (EUCOM).

"Our days are spent trying to get some poor, unsuspecting third world country to pony up to spending a year in a sweltering desert, full of pissed off Arabs who would rather shave the back of their legs with a cheese grater than submit to foreign occupation by a country for whom they have nothing but contempt." LTC (JS) on the joys of coalition building.

"If we wait until the last minute to do it, it'll only take a minute." MAJ (EUCOM)
