Wife's Birthday Wore Me Out
Published on August 21, 2005 By Sturgee In Marriage
Well, it's been an insanely busy weekend. My wife turned 29 today, but who wants to celebrate a birthday on a Sunday? So, I figured I'd set up a few surprises for her. I gave her three surprise "gifts", and I think they worked out well, and she was pretty happy. Her gifts started rolling in on Thursday though (due to delivery date limitations by retailers). I bought her a new dresser and mirror, and it was delivered Thursday afternoon. This was actually a gift from me as well as my parents, making it a little easier for them to get a gift for her. She was pretty happy with this, as she's been bugging me for about a month for a new dresser, so I get that off my shoulders.

We also had a "surprise" visit Friday night by a married couple we are friends with up in NYC. The wives were classmates in middle school in Korea, so it was a nice visit for them.

Finally, we went out for an all-you-can-eat Korean buffet dinner on Saturday. My wife thought it was going to be just us and our friends from NYC and another married couple we are friends with here in the area. But, an additional 10 people showed up for a suprise dinner party for her. It turned out well overall, but wore me out with all the planning, and made my wallet a bit lighter. It was well worth it though.

Then, in a total surprise, my wife got a little note from our favorite pro golfer, Se Ri Pak. Se Ri recently suffered a fracture in one of her fingers, so she withdrew from this week's tournament, and has to spend the next 4-6 weeks healing before she can play again. It was a hell of a nice surprise to get a note from her though. My wife left a brief note on Se Ri's website (as have dozens of fans), but we didn't realistically expect a response.

So, it's been a pretty interesting weekend, but I could really use another couple of days to recover....
